“You have to be in it to win it.”
“You can’t win if you fold.”
“If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.” (Jim Rohn)
“You got it backwards kid. You play cards the way you should lead your life. And you lead your life the way you should play cards” (L. C. Cheever – “Lucky You”)
Playing a lot of hands
Those who know me know that the latter quote fits quite well. To speak in poker terms: I play a lot of hands in life, see a lot of flops, and I am very often able to get away from difficult situations if necessary whilst winning big pots, if I decide to stay in.
In poker I am just learning to loosen up more and taking more risks. Here I am still known to play it tight and cautiously.
I guess life has taught me the lessons I needed to “loosen up” in life while even after 5 years I am still a newbie in poker and prefer to play it safe.
Fact is: If you don’t go out and try stuff you will miss out! I am proud to say that I lived like that my whole life. Most of my childhood friends stuck around me because I had the ideas. I was the one that came up with things to do, games to play, adventures to follow. One by one those friends were the ones that “tightened up” (grow up?) to live the easy, normal, risk-free, fun-free (?) lives that I was always scared of.
Am I childish? Naive? Stupid? … Maybe… So what? I have experienced so much in my life because I simply went for it! I made friends all over the world, traveled to and lived in many countries, I was poor, I was rich, drank with rock stars, partied with poker stars, rocked on stage, sold my own paintings, jumped of buildings for the sake of entertainment, learned to be professional in front and behind a camera…and I am not done yet!
Work hard – Party harder
There are hopefully big things coming up for me in my career because I love the company I work for! I am in it with my heart (my spade-shaped heart ;))! But will I grow up? No! The way I am makes the perfect candidate for almost anything – as long as I love it! I will be giving 100% around the clock for what I believe in and what is fun and exciting to me.
But obviously the motto “Work hard & Party hard(er)” will still be hanging above my head and I will make sure I will not forget how to go for those adventures that make life so exciting.
Anyways, my next adventure starts today! I am off to Las Vegas for a full month giving up a month’s pay to follow a dream. But as in poker I am a big fan of well calculated risk! When I come back I will be safe in the environment of my workplace.
I am not planning to become a professional poker player I just want to be able to say that I have tried it. 🙂
Enjoy life everyone! We only have this one. Time to live! 🙂
P.S.: …once more…just because I like this one and I think it’s funny… 😉
